How to prepare your car for a long drive vacation

Summer has arrived.  Preparing for your next long drive vacation?  Driving is all fun but there are things that you will have to do to make sure your car is up for it.  Below are some items every driver needs to know before taking off to avoid hassle and delay.

Water check
Pop the hood of the car and check the water reservoir normally located at the front corner right beside the radiator.  Make sure it is filled with water/coolant.  It is also advisable to bring along a gallon of water with you.

Oil check
Pull out the oil dip stick from the engine and check the oil level.  make sure it is with in its minimum and maximum level markings.  If oil is nearly low it is best to add some up before taking off

Brake check
Check the brake fluid reservoir and see if there is still enough fluid stored in it.  the reservoir has a minimum and maximum level marking as well so you will be able to know if you are still in a safe operating window.  Add a sufficient amount of DOT 3 brake fluid if it is leveling low.

Power steering check
Check the power steering tank if it has enough power steering fluid.  Fill it up as well if it is beyond its required level.

Tire check
Check the all 4 tires pressure and make sure they are inflated with in its recommended tire pressure.  You also need to make sure your spare tire is in good condition and properly inflated as well.

Lights check
Make sure your head lights, signal lights, brake lights are all working before the drive.

Wiper check
Check your wiper if they are working perfectly.  You don't want to risk and get stuck somewhere incase it rains because of a busted windshield wiper.

Tools check
Make sure you bring along important tools with you.  You will never know when you will need them
Flash light
Early warning device
Jack
Tire wrench
Adjustable wrench
Screw drivers
Portable 12V Tire air pump.
Car mobile phone charger

Check all of these and you are now ready for that trip.
