Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup is the Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner up

Shamcey Supsup(25) picked up the 3rd runner up spot in the Miss Universe 2011 pageant held in Sao Paulo Brazil on Monday night September 12, 2011.  The UP architect magna cum laude from General Santos City almost topped the online fan votes in the final rankings and became one of the strongest contender in the top 5.

"If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love because the first person that I love is God who created me and I have my faith and my principles and this is what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God too,"  Shamcey answered in the question "Would she change her religion to marry the one you love?"

Meanwhile, the gorgeous Miss Angola Leila Lopes was crowned to be the 2011 Miss Universe.  Miss Ukraine Olesya Stefanko got the first runner-up, Brazil's Priscila Machado placed 2nd runner up while Miss Philippines' Shamcey Supsup placed third.

Venus Raj was 4th, Shamcey now was 3rd, maybe next year 2nd runner up? :)

Shamcey is very smart. Beauty and brains. She should have won the crown.

Getting the 3rd spot out of the 88 contestants is not bad. Go Shamcey

@Lloyd

89 contestants. not 88. :)

I would think Shamcey's answer could have influenced judges decision or why she was just ranked 3rd. No question on the way she delivered, it was perfect. but the content of her answer could be a little too self-seeking, if that's the right term. She gave a firm "no" without any reconsiderations. Conflict in religion of couples can always be discussed as to who among the 2 will give in. and religion is something that should have been considered onset before starting a serious relationship with someone. So I thought she should have answered yes with a conjunction instead. Just my opinion. :)

I agree. I think changing religion for the one you love would not mean putting God and your beliefs just second in your life. If you love the person you are willing to sacrifice and the other person too. so they can just discuss.

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to that. The question is somewhat situational, Shamcey just answered it basing from what she thought she would do incase she will be in that particular situation. It's a personal choice and opinion. Everyone has one.

Oprah Winfrey say’s via NBC News”I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q&A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines

Agree with Oprah's comment.

Shamcey's question is subjective. No correct answer for that. unlike Miss Angola's. The judges should have measured the intellect of the remaining 5 as to how they answered not just what they answered. Shamcey should be the winner.

para ngang bias ung judging. si shamcey nga lang ung walang interpreter sa lahat.

I would think of it as a similar situation with Miriam Quiambao back in 99. She should have taken the crown instead of taking just 1st runner up spot. She kind of faltered during the Q&A portion and gave a downbeat answer that probably influenced judges decision in a way. While miss botswana, again with an interpreter pulled off an encouraging answer and took the crown. So I would say what you answer to the question matters more than how you answer it.

I think Q&A portion should be a measure of intelligence not a measure of opinion.

We really don't know if the interpreters translate exactly what the contestants say or maybe they sugar coat it to make it sound really good. Being able to express yourself in a foreign language effectively is already a measure of intellect and judges should have given Shamcey a big plus on that.
